A Message from Naomi
I am honored to serve as your State Representative in the Texas House.
When I first ran for this office in 2010, I pledged to make Texas Tech Medical School a top priority and this session, after years of previously unsuccessful efforts, we finally achieved that goal. I authored HB 257 (which was ultimately passed as SB 120), which will give El Paso this critical medical and educational resource as well as increase jobs and boost our local economy.
This Session, I was appointed Vice-Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee, where I was able to focus on issues important to the most vulnerable members of our community. Our Committee passed important bills, including a $100 million increase to the primary health care program that serves low income women, men and children, meaning more access to healthcare for our neighbors in need.
We secured a $71.3 million increase to the Women’s Health Program for more cancer screenings and wellness exams for El Paso women. I also helped secure $200 million to expand mental health services and reduce mental health waiting lists for adults and children across Texas.
Over the coming months, I will be reaching out to you. I want to talk with you about what we are doing and what is important to you, to hear your ideas about ways to strengthen our community, to improve our children’s education and to grow our economy. I realize the accident will be used against me in the upcoming political campaign and I expect the attacks to be ugly and personal.
Since the start, I have been honest with you. I ask you to judge me on my vision for this community, my roots in El Paso’s Lower Valley, my work ethic, my legislative accomplishments and my integrity. With your help we can continue to move forward.
